The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Leaked PassMark Score Outperforms the Predecessor by 14% on a Single Thread
AMD announced the finalized pricing points for its upcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D ($699) and 9900X3D ($599) gaming processors last Friday. The chips are scheduled to arrive on March 12. Official embargoes are scheduled to be lifted tomorrow (March 11), and media outlets are probably finishing up their assessments on the silicon. A pre-launch drip feed was limited to teases, a loose March debut window, and the release of basic specifications (at CES 2025) under Team Red’s directive. Performance assumptions for the 16 and 12-core components with 3D V-Cache have been partially revealed by a series of leaks that began in mid-January and continued into early March. Thanks to the benchmark scores of a purported Ryzen 9 9950X3D sample, a new NDA-breaking revelation has surfaced online.



A pre-release candidate completed PassMark tests with single and multi-thread ratings of 4739 and 69,701 (respectively). A comparison graphic was created using this data, placing the Ryzen 9 9950X3D against its direct predecessor (7950X3D), a relative of the Zen 5 (9950X), and an Intel competitor (Core Ultra 9 285K). In single thread workloads, AMD’s new 16-core flagship beat the previous generation Ryzen 9 7950X3D by about 14%, and in multithreaded scenarios, by about 11%. Details and parameters of the test system build were not disclosed in this leak; we anticipate learning more about the full picture tomorrow, when extensive reviews are published. In terms of multi-thread performance, the sampling Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU outperformed its 9950X brother by about 5%; single-core performance is roughly identical for both processors. With 5078 points, the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU achieved the highest single-core score in the comparison, surpassing the 9950X3D’s score by around 7%.
