In a leaked benchmark, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU challenges the RTX 4090 laptop.
We tech aficionados have our sights set on what the GPU titans have in store for us once every two years or so. With the release of the Blackwell and RDNA 4 products by NVIDIA and AMD, respectively, that time has arrived. Additionally, NVIDIA has revealed their laptop lineup, with the RTX 5080 laptop aiming to dominate the high-performance market. We already have a general notion of how mobile Blackwell will function just a day or two after launch.
The Alienware Area-51 laptop provided the leaked Geekbench OpenCL data, which show how well the RTX 5080 Laptop GPU works at 175 watts. The results show that the RTX 5080 laptop narrowly surpassed the 190,000-point threshold, placing it much ahead of its predecessor, which only reached about 160,000. It’s interesting to note that, as the title mentions, the RTX 4090 laptop, which often receives scores of 180,000 points, was also overlooked, albeit systems with more robust cooling configurations can achieve greater results.
However, it is important to remember that Blackwell, the consumer, has more strategies than just performance. Even in situations where raw performance falls short, the RTX 50-series GPUs can perform far above their weight class thanks to AI-driven magic like DLSS 4.0. We still have a few months to wait until we can test the systems ourselves, since the formal launch is scheduled for March. Be sure to approach leaked benchmarks with some caution till then.
