AMD Restricts Radeon RX 9060 Overclocking Headroom

In order to strengthen its position against the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 series, especially the RTX 5060 8 GB, which the RX 9060 XT easily outperforms, AMD today released the Radeon RX 9060 graphics card. Although the RX 9060 XT 8 GB is priced similarly to the RTX 5060, AMD faces a difficult time competing with capabilities like transformer model-based upscalers and multi-frame generation. The RX 9060 (non-XT) is being introduced to address these issues by matching the RTX 5060’s performance at a cheaper cost. However, there’s a catch.

According to VideoCardz, the RX 9060 has less headroom for overclocking than the RX 9060 XT. This is done to make sure the card doesn’t cannibalize the RX 9060 XT and only performs as intended. The ASUS RX 9060 DUAL graphics card comes with a game clock and boost speed of 2400 MHz and 2990 MHz, respectively. However, its software-activated OC Mode only increases the game clock and boost clock speeds by 10 MHz. In addition, the RX 9060 has 28 CU for 1,792 stream processors, whereas the RX 9060 XT has 32 CU and 2,048 stream processors. Additionally, the memory speed is lowered to 18 Gbps from the XT SKU’s 20 Gbps. AMD lowered the total board power (TBP) to 132 W, which is less than the RX 9060 XT 8 GB’s 150 W. This is another intriguing detail.
