AMD Gets Ready for the Ryzen 5000XT Socket AM4 Processor Family

With the firm preparing a new wave of CPU models for the platform, AMD is giving the Socket AM4 platform even another lease on life. AMD disclosed this during a meeting with its channel partners during the AMD Advantage Club gathering. The Ryzen 5000XT series of desktop Socket AM4 processors is designed to be similar to the Ryzen 3000XT series, which was the last upgrade of the Ryzen 3000 “Zen 2” family before the Ryzen 5000 series was introduced by the firm. The 3000XT series received criticism for being little more than 100–200 MHz speed bumps that provided no discernible advantages over the components they were swapping out for in the stack and were only an attempt by AMD to reappear at specific price points. The appearance of the 5000XT series is yet unknown. These will probably just be speed increases above the Ryzen 5000 “Vermeer” chips, but at more affordable prices. Two new SKUs, the Ryzen 7 8700F and the Ryzen 5 8400F, are also shown on the presentation that introduces the 5000XT series. Both most likely have iGPUs turned off and are built on 4 nm “Hawk Point” monolithic silicon.
