Official specifications and as early May launch date for the AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE

AMD has formally revealed the AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE, the high-end RDNA 4 gaming GPU that is only available in China, as well as the pre-order date of May 8. With less VRAM and compute units than its other RDNA 4 contemporaries, the RX 9070 GRE is a scaled-down version of AMD’s GRE GPUs, as was the case with earlier incarnations. At least one pre-order retail listing has been seen online, along with the official announcement and the May 8 release date. The retail pricing are 4499 CNY ($617 converted). Being an ASUS tri-fan card, the retail item in issue is marginally more expensive than the stated 4199 CNY MSRP.

AMD’s specifications state that the RX 9070 GRE has 12 GB of GDDR6 on a 192-bit bus with a maximum bandwidth of 432 GB/s. With 48 compute units (CUs) as opposed to the Radeon RX 9070’s 56, the 9070 GRE should be somewhat slower than the 9070 and 9070 XT. On the 9070 GRE, the GPU boost frequency has been increased from 2,520 MHz on the RX 9070 to 2,790 MHz. According to AMD, the new GPU outperforms the RX 9070 non-XT by 6% in “more than 30 games.” Additionally, the RX 9070 GRE has a conventional 2×8-pin power connector, so you don’t have to worry about 12VHPWR cables melting. Finding MSRP versions of the RX 9070 GRE may become challenging because, like the other RDNA 4 GPUs, it was released without a first-party reference design.
