Seen on Cinebench, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D “Zen 5” boosts to 5.20 GHz all-core performance.

According to rumors, AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will launch earlier than anticipated. The firm plans to at least make an announcement in October and release the product for evaluations and purchase by Q4 2024. When compared to the 7800X3D, which is still the fastest CPU for gaming, the chip is anticipated to improve AMD’s gaming performance outlook because it blends the most recent “Zen 5” microarchitecture with 3D V-cache technology. A purported screen grab of the CPU churning away at Cinebench has leaked, demonstrating the processor’s excellent 4.70 GHz base frequency and 5.20 GHz all-core boost frequency capabilities.

In comparison, the current Ryzen 7 9700X CPU, which is devoid of the 3D V-cache, has a base frequency of 3.80 GHz and a maximum boost frequency of 5.50 GHz. For the first time, an X3D SKU will be available with a higher base frequency than a standard SKU. For instance, the base frequency of the 7800X3D is 4.20 GHz, while that of the 7700X is 4.50 GHz. Fascinatingly, the 9800X3D’s 5.20 GHz all-core boost frequency is comparable to the 9700X’s all-core boost, which only reaches 5.50 GHz boost on workloads with light threading. The TDP and package power tracking (PPT) numbers AMD assigns to the 9800X3D are still unknown, considering that it had to use firmware to retrofit the SKU with a 105 W cTDP mode in order to extract an additional 10% of performance above the initial specifications.
