AMD to Release “Granite Ridge” Ryzen 9000 Zen 5 Desktop Processors in Late July

Many sources in the ChipHell tech forums are speculating that AMD’s next-generation Ryzen 9000 series “Granite Ridge” desktop CPUs, which are based on the “Zen 5” microarchitecture, would go on sale in late July 2024. Similar to the company’s Ryzen 7000 series launch, the initial four SKUs in the CPU series will be 16-core, 12-core, 8-core, and 6-core, spanning the Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7, and Ryzen 5 series. In the lead-up to the late-July introduction, the company may introduce these chips at its keynote speech at 2024 Computex early next month, discussing in general terms their capabilities and performance. In the meantime, we may receive technical peeks.

The Ryzen 9000 series “Granite Ridge” CPUs are expected to debut in late July, which also means that motherboard manufacturers will be showcasing their future AMD X870 desktop chipset-based motherboards at Computex. The Ryzen 9000 series is constructed in the Socket AM5 packaging and is expected to work with motherboards that currently use the AMD 600 series chipset. The majority of motherboard manufacturers have actually already made UEFI firmware updates available that support processors from the Ryzen 9000 series. Customers purchasing a Ryzen 9000 series processor with a motherboard featuring an AMD 600-series chipset can simply benefit from the USB BIOS Flashback capability found on the majority of motherboards, even entry-level models.
