AMD Presents “Ryzen AI 9 HX170” and Offers New Names for Ultraportable Processors
ITHome, a Chinese tech publication, has reported that AMD is preparing a new CPU naming scheme for its next-generation chips, with a focus on the ultraportable category. The report cites sources in ASUS. With the new name strategy, buyers should have an easier time identifying processors with AI capabilities (integrated NPU), processor class (U, H, or HX), and product grade (as indicated by a numerical component). This contradicts the news from yesterday, which mentioned a Lenovo product flier that mentioned the “Ryzen 8050 series.” Given that Lenovo is utilizing the 8050 series with its high-end ThinkPad T-series, it is improbable that these CPUs are part of a class of mainstream processors lacking AI capabilities.
