Upgraded GPU for NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4090: AD102-301
A new RTX 4090 Founders Edition has been sighted featuring an updated AD102-301 GPU. There have already been speculations that NVIDIA plans to deliver new GPU variations to several of its RTX 40 series graphics cards, specifically the RTX 4070 and the RTX 4080. According to earlier rumors, a new voltage comparator circuit on the board could only be enabled by an updated GPU. The same publications predicted that it might lead to less expensive boards, lower build costs, and ultimately a lower pricing, but the RTX 40 series has not seen any substantial price cuts until date.
Although there have been no rumors that the GeForce RTX 4090 would receive an upgrade, “cavityserach123” on Reddit has received an updated GeForce RTX 4090. The questioned card still displays the same Device PCI ID in GPU-Z, but the Sub ID has changed, indicating that it cannot be flashed with the BIOS of the earlier RTX 4090 based on the AD102-300.
Moreover, it seems as though the maximum voltage has been reduced from 1.1 V to 1.07 V. Naturally, this might only apply to Founders Edition cards, but that won’t be known for sure until more RTX 4090 graphics cards built on the AD102-301 architecture appear.
It remains to be seen whether the new GPU model introduces any more noteworthy changes, so maybe a decent review using the revised AD102-301 GPU will appear shortly.
