The Sweetspot Speed of Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” Desktop Processors is Verified at DDR5-6400

The memory overclocking capabilities of AMD’s future Ryzen 9000 series “Granite Ridge” desktop CPUs, which are built on the “Zen 5” microarchitecture, will be slightly enhanced. Similar to the Ryzen 7000 “Raphael,” “Granite Ridge” is a chiplet-based processor that combines a client I/O die (cIOD) produced on the 6 nm node with one or two “Zen 5” CCDs, each constructed on the TSMC 4 nm process. “Granite Ridge” and “Raphael” appear to have very identical cIODs. The DDR5 memory controllers for the processor are located in this chiplet.

Ryzen 9000 “Granite Ridge” is expected to support DDR5-6400 with a 1:1 ratio between the MCLK and FCLK domains as part of the update. The Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” CPUs’ DDR5-6000 sweetspot speed has been somewhat increased to this level. According to reports, AMD is enabling motherboard manufacturers and prebuilt OEMs to choose a 1:2 ratio, which allows for the operation of high memory rates like DDR5-8000. However, after DDR5-6400 @ 1:1, the performance benefits of higher memory speeds start to decrease. A fresh batch of DDR5 memory kits featuring AMD EXPO profiles for DDR5-6400 ought to be released by memory vendors.
