Surfaces of AMD Ryzen 7 7700 (non-X); possibly OEM-only
AMD is planning to add new SKUs to its Ryzen 7000-series “Zen 4” desktop processor series, one of which is the Ryzen 7 7700. (non-X). Given the history of non-X Ryzen 5000-series SKUs, the 7700 is very likely an OEM-only SKU that will be featured in pre-built desktops. The addition of an iGPU to the Ryzen 7000-series processors significantly changes things for AMD, as it makes these processors suitable for even home- and commercial desktops that lack discrete graphics. The Ryzen 7 7700 has the same 8-core/16-thread configuration as the Ryzen 7 7700X, but the clock speeds are likely to be lower due to lower power limits. The chip has a TDP of 65 W, compared to the 7700X’s TDP of 105 W.
This means that its package power tracking (PPT) power limit will be closer to 90 W than the 7700X’s 140 W. This will also significantly reduce the processor’s cooling requirements, allowing OEMs to use more cost-effective air coolers. The exact clock speeds, however, are unknown.
