Sales of AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs at a German retailer surpass sales of the entire Ryzen 9000 series.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU has sold more units than all of the Ryzen 9000 processors combined, according to recent sales statistics from Mindfactory, one of the biggest German merchants (nicely compiled by VideoCardz). The eight-core 9800X3D CPU has sold 8,650 units, more than the total sales of the previously released ordinary Ryzen 9000 processors, despite its delayed market debut. In contrast, the overall number of sales for the whole non-X3D Ryzen 9000 lineup—which includes the Ryzen 9 9950X, 9900X, 7 9700X, and 5 9600X—has decreased through the same vendor. The flagship Ryzen 9 9950X alone only sold 780 units, whereas the Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 5 9600X sold 810 and 890 units, respectively. The Ryzen 7 9700X was the second-best-selling SKU in the 9000 series, selling 2,510 units. The 9800X3D still performs far worse on the market than its predecessor, nevertheless. 78,420 units of the previous generation Ryzen 7 7800X3D were sold through the same vendor, maintaining a significant advantage.

AMD is getting ready to add a number of new X3D models to its lineup. Later this month, 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X3D and 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D models are anticipated to be released with the six-core Ryzen 5 9600X3D. These forthcoming high-end CPUs might experience comparable market dynamics to those of past generations, where higher-core versions saw lower adoption rates. Naturally, these sales numbers only tell part of the issue because Mindfactory is a single store with a wide range of vendors, thus AMD is the only one who knows the full market picture. Since users don’t typically replace their PCs with new CPUs and platforms every year, PC upgrade cycles are a common bottleneck in the sales of new CPUs. We must wait to see how the market responds to new X3D SKUs and whether Zen 5 X3D CPUs can become as well-known among customers as their predecessors.
