In Japan, AMD Radeon holds a 45% market share; if the supply chain permits, this may be even higher.
During a recent industry roundtable, AMD Japan CEO Sato stated that the company’s Radeon GPU range has earned an impressive 45% market share in Japan, indicating the brand’s strongest position in the competitive graphics card market. In a market that has hitherto been controlled by NVIDIA, this notable market penetration represents a turning point for Team Red. The announcement was made at an AMD-focused event in Akihabara during a multi-vendor panel that included officials from ASRock, ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, PowerColor, and Sapphire. Industry partners pushed for more ambitious goals while commemorating the milestone; ASRock’s Haraguchi challenged AMD to aim for a 70% market share. Ichikawa, an ASUS executive, made a lighthearted comment on the brand’s past underdog status: “We’ve never been the ruling party!”
Prominent tech influencers also shared their thoughts on AMD’s newest hardware at the event. “Sir Gradeon” highlighted that the GPUs don’t need power supply updates and commended the Radeon RX 9070 series for its significant VRAM capacity and overclocking headroom. Another influencer “Shurarara!!” highlighted the RX 9070 XT’s price-to-performance ratio, pointing out that, with the right settings, it can run demanding games like Monster Hunter Wilds at 4K resolution. During the discussion, supply issues surfaced as a major worry, with AIB partners complaining about GPU allocation restrictions in spite of high demand. Attendees laughed as AMD’s representative candidly said that the firm “not being used to selling graphics cards” at this level, demonstrating the surprising nature of AMD’s market surge. There was a lot of interest in the event, and long queues formed before the doors opened. Participants took part in the X-Walk Post Campaign in the electronics neighborhood of Akihabara, where early AMD product buyers were given access to special promotional materials.
