The 12-core/24-thread AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D Socket AM5 CPU with 3D V-cache is now available for a reduced $329 pricing. AntOnline’s retailer-only discount brings the processor’s pricing down from the Ryzen 7 7700X and Core i5-14600K launch prices. Although we haven’t had an opportunity to test it, Tom’s Hardware testing indicates that this chip performs better in games than the Core i9-13900K, with multithreaded productivity performance falling into a comparable range. The popularity of AMD’s flagship 7950X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which is still the fastest gaming CPU, may be the reason for the 7900X3D’s poor sales.
Not only that, but some of the most recently released processors for the outdated Socket AM4 platform have sloped prices, which may encourage customers to upgrade. The fastest AM4 gaming CPU, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, is a somewhat slower variant of the 5800X3D, with gaming performance that can compete with the Core i9-12900K. On Amazon US, this new processor is available for just $229. When AMD dominated Intel’s 10th and 11th generation processors, the Ryzen 7 5800X was a good gaming processor; it’s currently only $179.
