AMD “Krackan / Kraken Point” APU seen with 32 GB LPDDR5X-8000 Memory and a 4+4 CPU Core Configuration

AMD’s “Lunar Lake” response to Intel is now available. As per Olrak29, who spotted an odd entry on Phoronix’s OpenBenchmark benchmarking suite, we have some initial details about AMD’s “Krackan / Kraken Point” APU. The “100-000000713” model, which is an eight-core, sixteen-threaded CPU with four conventional Zen 5 cores and four smaller (but no less powerful) Zen 5c cores clocked at 3.95 GHz, was identified in the benchmark testing. Because this is only an engineering sample in the wild, AMD and its OEMs will primarily choose the ultimate clock speeds, as TDP plans to support Kraken Point.

Alongside the 8C/16T CPU arrangement comes 32 GB of SK Hynix LPDDR5X memory. Four 8 GB modules were found in the benchmark reading, thus we anticipate that it will be on the system board rather than on-chip, like Intel did with Lunar Lake. The memory is operating at 8000 MT/s, which is slower than its rival Lunar Lake’s LPDDR5X, which is operating at 8533 MT/s, and 500 MT/s faster than Strix Point. Finally, eight RDNA 3.5 Compute Units have been observed in the Krackan/Krunken Point APU. It’s still unclear exactly where this fits into AMD’s product stack. By 2025, we anticipate hearing more about it; until then, wait for the next leak.
