For Chromium-based web browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, Intel Graphics has added a capability that competes with NVIDIA VSR (virtual super resolution), which improves the quality of streaming video at both native resolution and higher resolutions. This information was found in a Chrome build’s change-log, which mentions the addition of a “-features=IntelVpSuperResolution” command-line parameter to start Chrome with, enabling the capability.

It appears that Intel iGPUs built on the Xe-LP graphics architecture dating back to the 11th Gen Core (“Tiger Lake” and “Rocket Lake”) are compatible with the Intel VSR functionality. When trying to upscale internet video from lesser resolutions (such SD 360p/480p or HD 720p) up to Full HD (1080p) or higher, the capability should be quite helpful. According to reports, Chrome/Edge 110 already has VSR enabled by default and doesn’t need that command-line parameter. You must have Intel iGPU graphics drivers version 27.20.100.8681 or later in order to utilize it.
