Apple is Discontinuing Intel-based iMac Pro

Last year, Apple announced that it would be saying goodbye to Intel in the future and relying on its own ARM processors for its products. Now the iPhone manufacturer has started to phase out the first products. As you can see on the official Apple website, the iMac Pro can only be purchased while stocks last. This means that only devices that are available from stock are sold. In addition, buyers are no longer able to make changes to the configuration when ordering.

The entry-level version of the Apple computer, which has been available since December 2017, was priced at around 5,500 euros. With the maximum configuration, buyers had to put a whopping 15,550 euros on the table. However, even the most expensive variant has no chance against the iMac released in 2020. Especially since this is also much cheaper. So it was foreseeable that Apple would discontinue its iMac Pro sooner or later.

Furthermore, Apple is to present new iMacs with ARM processors to the public this month or announce a future release. However, it is not only the CPU that will change with the new iMacs, but also the basic design of the computer. According to the rumor mill, a keynote or at least the time for the presentation of the new iMacs will be announced on March 16, 2021.

However, it will be some time before the new devices are actually available in stores. With the ongoing corona pandemic, there will also be massive delays in 2021, including among shipping service providers. In addition, the shortage of raw materials is currently causing problems for many manufacturers. Even if Apple does not rely on external suppliers for the finished product, certain materials are required for production that are currently hardly available on the world market.
